The Program Manager will manage programs and some day-to-day operations for the UC ANR innovation program, the Verde Innovation Network for Entrepreneurship (VINE) and develop and expand its programs, initiatives, and personnel. The Program manager will work closely with and report to the UC ANR Chief Innovation Officer, assisting in any aspect related to the operation and coordination of the VINE. A three-year contract position with the option to renew. Position may be extended or converted to career depending on funding.

The VINE is focused on but not limited to the following programmatic areas:

  • Rapid Commercialization (process) - Align industry to innovation priorities by facilitating industry-led

innovation roadmapping workshops with the food and farming industries in California and nationally, and then publishing those innovation priorities. Following the roadmapping process, the project will conduct 12-month cohort-based commercialization projects that bring together a group of companies across California or nationally that work with industry to develop, test and demonstrate technology-based market solutions.

  • Ag, Food, Health Innovation Center Network (people) - Leverage the existing statewide UC ANR Research and Extension Center System (RECS) to support commercialization and digital technology development projects with regional and national companies. The VINE will conduct a feasibility study for the creation of a flagship innovation center in the Greater Sacramento region to support commercialization of high-growth technology startups that address global agriculture, food and health challenges, linking other regional innovation centers together statewide.
  • Digital Technology Development (technology) - Provide startups and large companies from the

technology and agrifood supply chain sectors with technical assistance to support accelerated development of digital technologies that enable food system resiliency and increase high tech jobs and career pathways. Deployment efforts will focus on artificial intelligence solutions, open and interoperable software, and hardware platforms, and supporting industry and community adoption of technologies for scaling.

This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed, and ends three years from date of hire with the possibility of extension or conversion to career if funding permits. 

Pay Scale: $59,000.00/year to $82,000.00/year

This position will promote, in all ways consistent with the other responsibilities of the position, accomplishment of the Affirmative Action goals established by the Division.
